Menter y Moelwyn NEWS RELEASE10/01/08
DECISION TIME on blaenau hall design Menter y Moelwyn takes its two design options to local supermarkets to seek the views of the people of the town. A Blaenau Ffestiniog community group will be displaying its plans in local supermarkets this week to ask the people of the town for their views on how a local landmark building should look. Menter y Moelwyn is a community group which aims to refurbish the Blaenau Ffestiniog Market Hall, transforming a disused building to provide a comprehensive centre for the local community. The group have been given a grant by the Big Lottery Fund to finalise the design for refurbishing the building and have commissioned architects Baart Harris Newall to do this, so that planning permission can be obtained. Having consulted the people of Blaenau at the ‘Fun in the Hall Day’ in November 2004, the group have already specified what is necessary inside the building, to provide the activities needed. “But”, says group member Robi Buckley who plays double bass with the band Gwibdaith Hen Frân, “We now have to decide how the outside looks. To make sure that we end up with a building that the whole of Blaenau can be proud of, we need everyone to give us their views on these two plans, both positive and negative.” The group will be asking people how much they like these two plans, and to list up to three things they like about each of them, and up to three things they don’t. Representatives of Menter y Moelwyn will be in the Somerfield from 1-7pm on Thursday 17 January, in the Co-op from 1-7pm on Friday 18 January, and in the Spar from 9am – 12 noon on Sunday 20 January, inviting people to give their views on the design options.
